Molly Spittal, designer of Montreal's The Stowe shares her inspiration for AW/18.

Can you describe your creative process?
It's an ongoing process. I gather images and inspiration constantly and then try to make sense of it all later. I'm really efficient at communicating my designs to my production team so the greatest task really is narrowing down all of my visual inspiration and refining the details.
What was your concept for the Fall 18 collection?
My concept is so simple, and always just to make handbags that women really want to wear. I've never designed an object that I wouldn't wear every day myself. I can't expect anyone else to invest in my vision if I wouldn't do it!
Do you have a favourite piece this season?
The Madelyn is definitely a departure for me. The details and strap are all brand new and I'm really excited about it. I think the best combination of leather and style is the Madelyn in Tan.
If you could only pack one piece of clothing on a trip what would it be?
As a practical Canadian - A good wool coat. But any other time I would say my new Pari Desai silk satin dress.
Who is your fashion icon?
All the strong female entrepreneurs I surround myself with who drape themselves in everything they design.
If you could dress one music artist who would that be and why?
Beyonce. She's the last person who needs help dressing herself. I just want to hang out with her.
Can you describe who The Stowe customer is?
I think it's women just like me with similar values to my own. Individuals who want to support other artists and wear something functional but look cool doing it.
